A Practice Built
on Measured Counsel
We have worked with Muslim families in the Federal Territory and across Malaysian Syariah courts for over a decade. Our approach begins with listening, and we do not ask clients to decide anything in haste.
Back to HomeHow Hidayah Chambers Came to Be
Hidayah Chambers was established in Kuala Lumpur with a straightforward purpose: to offer Muslim individuals and families access to well-considered Syariah legal counsel without the atmosphere of urgency or pressure that can characterise some practices.
The founding practitioners had observed, across years working within Syariah court proceedings, that many clients arrived having already made decisions — decisions that might have looked different with a thorough, unhurried first conversation. The chambers was set up to be that conversation.
We are located at Wisma UOA along Jalan Pinang, within easy reach of the Federal Territory Syariah Court complex. Most of our clients come to us through the recommendation of previous clients, or through referrals from civil law solicitors who recognise that Syariah family matters require dedicated specialist attention.
Our practice today covers the full range of Syariah family matters — divorce proceedings in all their forms, nafkah and hadhanah representation, and faraid estate distribution. Each area is handled by practitioners who appear regularly in the relevant courts and who understand the procedural and substantive differences between state enactments.
Our Mission
To ensure that every Muslim individual who consults us leaves with a clear, written understanding of their legal position and their available options — without having been asked to commit to any particular step until they are ready to do so.
The Values That Guide Our Work
Adl — Justice
We advise on what the law provides, not on what the client wishes to hear. Our role is to ensure you understand your position accurately, including the strengths and limitations of your case.
Rahmah — Compassion
Family legal matters involve people at vulnerable moments. We attend to the human dimension alongside the legal one, and we do not treat these proceedings as merely procedural exercises.
Amanah — Trust
Client information is held in strict confidence. Written engagement terms are clear and discussed before any work begins. We charge only for work agreed to in advance.
Our Practitioners
Each member of the team appears regularly before the Syariah courts and brings specific expertise to their area of practice.
Ustaz Zainal Abidin
Called to the Syariah bar in 2009, Ustaz Zainal specialises in contested divorce and hadhanah proceedings in the Federal Territory Syariah Courts. He has conducted sulh sessions as a facilitated-party practitioner for over eight years.
Puan Norizan Ibrahim
Puan Norizan focuses on nafkah iddah, mut'ah, and hak lawatan matters. She joined the chambers in 2015 after practising in Selangor, and brings knowledge of both the Federal Territory and Selangor enactment frameworks.
Encik Ahmad Ridhwan
Ahmad Ridhwan handles faraid distribution matters, Perintah Pusaka applications, and hibah advisory work. He coordinates between Amanah Raya, the Land Office, and the High Court depending on the estate profile of each engagement.
Standards We Uphold
Our practice is conducted according to standards that cover both professional obligations and the particular sensitivities of Syariah family work.
Syariah Bar Registered
All practitioners hold valid Sijil Peguam Syarie and appear regularly before Lower and Appeal Syariah Courts.
Client Confidentiality
Strict legal professional privilege applies. Client information is never shared with third parties outside the scope of the engagement.
Written Engagement Terms
Scope, fees, and responsibilities are set out in writing before any work commences. No unexpected charges.
Continuing Education
Practitioners attend Jabatan Kehakiman Syariah Malaysia continuing professional development programmes and state-level law reform consultations.
Syariah Family Law Practice in Kuala Lumpur
Hidayah Chambers advises Muslim individuals on the full spectrum of Syariah family legal matters arising under Malaysian law. Our practitioners understand the Islamic Family Law (Federal Territories) Act 1984 and the equivalent enactments in Selangor and other states, as well as the procedural frameworks that govern conduct in the Syariah Subordinate Courts, the Syariah High Courts, and the Syariah Appeal Courts at state level.
We advise clients at the earliest possible stage — before positions harden, before documents are filed, and before the costs and stresses of contested proceedings begin to accumulate. A considered first conversation frequently narrows the issues, clarifies what the law actually provides, and allows parties to approach even difficult matters with clearer expectations.
Our faraid and estate practice addresses the particular complexity that arises when a Muslim estate involves mixed-title property, minor beneficiaries, hibah arrangements made during the deceased's lifetime, or disputes between heirs over the scope of wasiat entitlements. These matters require careful coordination across legal forums and an understanding of both the Syariah enactments and the civil law instruments that govern land, banking, and trust administration in Malaysia.
